Not a fan.... April 10, 2010 K. Havlik 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
We purchased the Touchsmart to eliminate clutter in the office with cords, accessories, etc. The unit has a great look to it, past that I really don't have much good to say about the unit. I've replaced the hard drive 3 times since 2008 and had to wipe the computer clean 2 other times because it will not function. I have never seen a new computer that needs to have a hard drive replaced on 3 separate occasions or doesn't have the memory and capacity to handle normal day to day functions. We did not use this for music or pictures after the first two crashes due to losing so much information. Any toolbars or additional accessories that HP put on the computer at purchase actually hinder the processing capability of the unit. I have used HP at the office for a number of years using their commercial line of products and have never had this many issues. I will not purchase another HP home unit again after this debacle. I have a 18 month old product that i would literally throw out the window if I hadn't spent $1300.
It has its ups and downs April 8, 2010 D. Ford (Chicago) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wasn't looking for a new computer, my old computer which was an HP just shut off one day, so I ended up with a new Touch Screen. The computer itself runs normal. IMO Windows 7 is faster in response time but doesn't offer much more than a few trickles and bells compared to Vista. I only use my computer for word, web browsing, movies, and hosting my media collection. I depend on my computer to run these apps at once, quietly, and fast. This is something that is done by most well built computers. For the first few days I had the computer the touch screen is quite fascinating, but after a while you tend to question the actual usefulness of this. Most of the time you will find yourself using your mouse and keyboard instead of touching the screen, quite frankly it's faster. The touch screen has odd response time in some situations, but it is not a bad computer. The best is the touchsmart application. You can run your music, photos, web, video, through a program which focuses on touch use (in fact it is easier to touch than dragging the mouse around). The program reminds you why you brought a touch screen instead of a another computer with more tech and less price. Touchsmart also has special built applications to netflix, pandora, hulu, and can be personalized to add youtube and any other application you want. Another thing about the touchsmart which most people don't bring up is the space saving it provides. This was the reason I brought it instead of a normal windows computer. The monitor/hard drive are connected and the keyboard and mouse are wireless (you don't need batteries).
Overall it's a good computer, but I have decided that I am going to get a mac later this year. If you want more power go for the 600 and make up-grades if you plan to do intensive gaming or programming. Other than that it is a good general use computer out of the box and is worth it's price, but I wouldn't spend over a grand.
Don't get excited about this product! April 7, 2010 O. Sail (IL) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased an HP smart touch 300 at best buy and I had to return it after 22 hours from buying it. I found it very slow in loading certain windows 7 applications. I'm not sure if the problem resides in the OS or in the processor itself. Regardless, it appeared to me slower than it should be. The touch screen works fine but you do have to struggle with it every now and then, especially at the corner of the screen, when trying to minimize or close a window. Now, the main reason I had to return this computer is because when I turned it on for the second time, the windows logon sound started very choppy and remained the same as I played samples of windows 7 music. I captured a short video via the built-in webcam and the audio was also choppy. After I restarted the computer, the logon sound and the media audio were perfect. I honestly don't trust computers that act fine one day and weird the next . I'll give it three stars for the design and the wireless keyboard and mouse.

I am a 76 year old senior, not terribly literate on computers, but I love this one.It does everything so easily and if you are not sure it gives you easy instructions. I love the ease of changing from the touch use to the using of the mouse. I thought it would be complicated. The screen is so bright and clear I can use the computer without my glasses, which is a real plus. It is so easy to use and so far I have had no problem with Windows 7 Home Premium. I highly recommend this to anyone. The speaker system is also so clear. Much better than my old Dell.

I just bought this computer a couple weeks ago and works great. I have it wall mounted (no keyboard or mouse needed) in my kitchen streaming movies and music from my other computer using libraries (windows 7 file sharing). I would not recommend this as a replacement computer but as a multimedia hot spot somewhere in your home. works great in your kitchen to listen to music or stream videos while washing the dishes or cooking up something to eat. Like i said before I would not recommend this as a primary computer. This computer works great as a secondary multimedia unit.
